Flooring

In order to sub-divide the portion between the plinth level or basement level and roof level, solid constructions are carried out. These constructions are known as floors and exposed top surface of floors are termed as floorings. Ground floors or basement floors, which directly rest on the ground, do not require the provision of a floor. But they are provided with suitable type of flooring.

Materials used for flooring

Concrete screed

Screed is a thin layer of cement paste and sand/ fine aggregates, laid on to a concrete floor base or under floor heating to act as a smooth flat leveling surface for taking on the final floor finish. Screeds generally follow a mix proportion of 1Cement: 3-5Sand (0-4mm washed sharp sand for leveling screeds). For heavy duty screeds 25% of the 0-4mm sand is replaced by 6-10mm single sized aggregates, making the mix proportion 1:3:1 – cement:0-4mm sand:6-10mm single sized aggregates. This is done to facilitate trowelling and to increase the density of the screed.

VDF @75/sqft

VDF Flooring stands for Vacuum Dewatered Flooring. This is a special technique to do the Concrete Flooring to increase the Compressive Strength, Tensile Strength, Abrasion Resistance and to minimize the Shrinkage and Floor Wraps. VDF Flooring results in High Strength, Longer Life, Better Finish and Faster Work.

Vitrified tile @110/sqft

Vitrified tile is a ceramic tile with very low porosity. It is an alternative to marble and granite flooring. Vitrified tiles are often used due to their water and frost resistance. There are four types of Vitrified . tiles – Soluble salt, Double charge, Full Body, Glazed. Vitrified tiles comes in following finishes: 1) Glossy 2) Semi Glossy/Satin and Mat finish

Red/black oxide @20/sqft

Red or black oxide pigments can be added to the cement sand screed while finish. Which can be polished with wax later

Engineered wooden flooring @400/sqft

Traditionally, 2 layer engineered flooring comes in either generous 21 mm or 16 mm total thickness. Such is produced by using either 6 mm top layer bonded to 15 mm waterproof birch plywood, or 4 mm top layer bonded to 12 mm ply core. The tiles are fixed by Tongue and grove jointing method and all wall joints are terminated by using edge trims.

Wooden laminate flooring @ 125/sqft

Laminate flooring is a multi-layer synthetic flooring product fused together with a lamination process. Laminate flooring simulates wood (or sometimes stone)

Tough glass flooring @300/sqft

Toughened glass can be used for flooring where a rich and decorative interior ambience is required, especially in courtyards etc. Normal Thickness to be used for span up to 2.0m = 20mm

Granite flooring @ 120 – 300/sqft

Granite is one of the most durable and attractive of all natural stones. It is quarried in many countries across the World and consists of quartz, feldspar and mica; during formation it cooled very slowly which results in it being second only to diamonds in its hardness. Due to its resistance to flaking, scratching and scorching, granite is the number one choice in natural stone for contemporary floor coverings, wall tiling, kitchen worktops, bathrooms, wet rooms and commercial applications. This marble is usually available in slabs. Eg: Diana Biege, Bottochino, Carrera, Nero black, Perlato Sicillia, Dark Emperador etc.

Metal flooring

Metal flooring is an excellent flooring solution to the heavy traffic areas where strength and durability is the main aspect to be dealt with. It is available in tile as well as sheet form. Metal flooring can be treated to look like brass, copper, bronze and many other metals.

Linoleum flooring

Linoleum, commonly abbreviated to lino, is a floor covering made from materials such as solidified linseed oil (linoxyn), pine resin, ground cork dust, wood flour, and mineral fillers such as calcium carbonate, most commonly on a burlap or canvas backing. Pigments are often added to the materials to create the desired colour finish.

Linoleum is a mix of renewable natural materials: primarily linseed oil, which comes from flax seeds, plus other natural ingredients such as jute, cork powders, wood floors and tree resins. The design is not on a separate image layer, but is embedded throughout the materials. Additionally, Linoleum may require a protective seam sealant.

Vinyl flooring

All types of vinyl flooring — luxury vinyl flooring (or LVT), rigid core hybrid flooring, vinyl sheet and vinyl tile — are manufactured in layers.

The top wear layer is a finish (such as urethane) that protects floors from scratches and stains. Next is the image layer, which can look like hardwood or stone, or a pattern or solid color. Some vinyl floors have texture that matches the image, making wood and stone styles look and feel a lot like the real thing.

The core determines how dent- and water-resistant a vinyl product is. Depending on the product, the core may also add rigidity. Some vinyl flooring feels flexible before you install it (like vinyl sheet, which comes in a roll) and some feels much firmer (like rigid core products, where planks or tiles snap together). On some vinyl flooring products there is an attached underlayment. This can add cushion and make floors quieter underfoot.

Vinyl flooring is extensively used because it is water-impervious, fairly durable, adjustably resilient and insulating, easy to install, available with a variety of appearances, and inexpensive. Custom-print vinyl sheet flooring may cost an order of magnitude more, if ordered commercially, However, vinyl flooring has environmental concerns in manufacturing, use, and disposal.
